Illegal immigrant accused in deadly crash that killed Savannah teacher indicted
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Chatham County grand jury has indicted Oscar Vasquez Lopez on one count of first-degree homicide by vehicle in connection to a crash that killed Savannah teacher Linda Davis earlier this year.
Investigators say Davis was killed after Lopez allegedly fled from federal immigration agents and crashed into her vehicle near Truman Parkway and Whitefield Avenue in February.
According to investigators, Lopez was accused of driving recklessly while attempting to evade an immigration-related traffic stop before colliding with Davis’ vehicle.
Davis was a teacher at Herman W. Hesse K-8 School and was remembered by school leaders as a dedicated educator who impacted students across the Savannah community.
Authorities previously charged Lopez with reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and failure to obey a traffic control device.
