I-16, Chatham Parkway crash caused by juvenile in stolen car

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 4:49 p.m. 8/15/2025] The wreck has been cleared and roadways are once again open on I-16 near Chatham Parkway.

According to Georgia State Patrol, the Garden City Police tried to stop a stolen Chevrolet Silverado on Dean Forest Road when the driver struck a with a commercial vehicle, causing both vehicles to exit the roadway.

The driver of the Silverado was injured but refused EMS.

The 14-year-old male suspect driving the Silverado was taken into custody and transported to the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center.

I-16 eastbound was closed for 1.5 hours due to this crash.

[ORIGINAL STORY] There is a heavy police presence on I-16 and police have closed down portions of the road near Chatham Parkway.

WTOC is on the scene and has seen police clearing people from the road.

We have been told that police are attempting to recover a vehicle which has fell between the ditch and the trees by the Chatham Parkway exit.

There are no serious injuries.
