Hyundai announces first local job fair since ICE raid

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) is hiring, according to a recent social media post by the company.

HMGMA will be holding a job fair later this month at the Savannah Tech Crossroads Campus at 190 Crossroads Parkway in Savannah, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

“We are hiring across several departments and will be conducting onsite interviews for many of the open positions,” Hyundai states in its post. “The event is open to everyone, especially military and veterans.”

The Hyundai job fair will take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 - a little more than three-and-a-half weeks since the ICE raid at the Hyundai megasite’s HL-GA battery plant.

During that incident, 475 people were taken into custody in what Homeland Security called ‘the largest single site operation’ in its history.

In the weeks since, hundreds of Korean nationals have returned to South Korea.

Earlier this week, the Korea Times reported its government plans to open a probe into possible human rights violations against its citizens during the Hyundai megasite ICE raid.

On September 16, Gov. Kemp said the event should be a catalyst for a retooling of the nation’s visa system.
