SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Hundreds of people gathered at the corner of Ferguson and Glade Street to honor 14-year-old Marcus Anderson, who was hit and killed by a car last Sunday.

Anderson was riding his electric bike when a car hit him and drove off that night. Friends and family came to that same spot to honor the legacy they say he left behind too soon.

“I just hate that he’s gone, but I just know he’s in a better place now,” Anderson’s Cousin said.

Family members described Anderson as having a vibrant personality and being a smart kid.

“So he had a really vibrant personality, he was a really smart kid, and we loved him so much, and that’s gonna be a big hole, but we’re grateful we got to spend the time we did with him,” another family member said.

Loved ones said prayers, told funny memories, and sang songs honoring the teen.

“Y’all know the Marcus smirk. He had a smile that he had a he had an evil little smile, and it was so charming. I love him, love him,” someone said during the vigil.

Anderson’s aunt, who drove in from Chicago to honor her nephew, said everyone showing up means the world, but it doesn’t bring her nephew back.

“Even when the service is over, the pain doesn’t stop,” she said.

Marcus’s family said he will always be remembered for how caring he was, even at such a young age.

“And he was always very smart, very kind, always trying to do something, fix something,” a family member said. “And that’s what he did, he was full of love, no matter what he did, no matter how bad he was, that was my boy, and he loved everybody he came in contact with.”

Marcus’ family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
