Howard students help restore Legapeville Cemetery
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Volunteers from a local group called “Friends with Urban Nature” are teaming up with 17 Howard university students all to restore Legapeville Cemetery and revitalize parts of Savannah.
They spent the day picking up trash and working to clear and restore a walking trail around the historic site. Organizers say the project is about cleaning up — and connecting students to savannah’s history.
Organizers hope this project will lead to more cleanups and more public access at Legapeville Cemetery — and inspire other groups to adopt historic spaces across savannah.
“Its an enjoyable thing to restore a space back to a kinda of natural non human waste space, and just having a group of volunteers come through to help them with litter clean up has been pretty impactful,” said Peter Van Brussel, organizer.
Organizers hope this project will lead to more cleanups and more public access at Legapeville Cemetery — and inspire other groups to adopt historic spaces across Savannah.
