Heavy rain, flooding in Savannah on Sunday
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - We’ve been seeing a lot of heavy rain and flooding in the area Sunday.
Earlier Sunday, the Chatham County Fire Department went to E. Gateway Blvd./Abercorn St. for a stranded vehicle due to localized flooding.
There were no injuries reported.
Fire officials reminded drivers to be safe when traveling and wrote, “Turn around, Don’t Drown!”
Roadways flooded earlier Sunday due to heavy rainfall.
“Never been through anything like that in my life, it took for the police and fire department to remove my car out the flooded waters,” said Savannah visitor, Quinn Greene.
Drivers like Greene say they were overtaken by the water.
While working in Savannah for the weekend, she says she was driving along Gateway Boulevard when her car broke down because of the rising water.
“My cars not starting at all and there’s water spewing out of the back of my exhaust pipes,” said Greene.
Greene said several other small sedans, like hers, also got stuck.
High water signs were also posted along the roadway to help prevent any other cars from getting stuck.
“I feel as though I could be stranded in Savannah as of now,” said Greene.
