Hardeeville opens veterans memorial park on Memorial Day
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (WTOC) - A new veterans memorial park opened in Hardeeville this Memorial Day, and city leaders say the timing was no accident.
The new park is on Martin Street next to the Hardeeville Library. It honors fallen service members, veterans and first responders.
The park features flags representing each branch of the military, along with a wall dedicated to first responders.
Mayor Harry Williams says Hardeeville has deep military roots going back to the Revolutionary War, and this park is a way to make sure history is never forgotten.
“There is a lot of history here, so this park is a way to memorialize all the sacrifices and all the history that we have here in Hardeeville,” Williams said. “This is a park, not just for special days, for 365 days a year. Where families can come for whatever purpose, and just be here and enjoy a wonderful park.”
Williams says the park is believed to be the first of its kind in Jasper County, and he’s inviting everyone to come see it in person.
