SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Celebrating the power, resilience and influence of Black women who are shaping stories.

Thursday night, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce hosted its EmpowHER event at the Clyde Venue in honor of Women’s History Month. The event included a panel discussion with local news anchors, including our very own Dawn Baker, who shared parts of her story along with advice and insight.

Organizers say the event is all about building community and opening doors for the next generation.

“Today’s event is about empowering women — helping women understand what empowerment means, like access to power, resources and opportunities so they can really live their full lives and have the autonomy to build community, but also build family for themselves,” said Kim Addie, vice president of strategy and impact for Kindred Futures.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson was also in attendance and said the women on the panel all work to give a voice to people in the community.
