Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary seeks applicants for advisory council

by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - NOAA’s Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary is now accepting applications for two volunteer positions on its advisory council.

The council plays a key role in ensuring public involvement in sanctuary decisions and provides guidance to leadership on management and community concerns.

Officials say the 21-member council represents a wide range of interests, including fishing, diving, conservation, science, education, tourism, and government agencies.

The sanctuary is currently looking to fill two seats:

  • Citizen-at-Large
  • Education (University)

Each position carries a three-year term.

Applicants don’t need direct sanctuary experience but should understand their community and represent regional interests. Officials encourage those interested in conservation and community engagement to apply.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on April 26, 2026.
