Gov. McMaster asking for federal emergency disaster declaration from Trump

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Gov. Henry McMaster’s office announced Friday that it had requested a federal emergency disaster declaration from President Trump in the hopes of getting additional response efforts for this weekend’s anticipated winter storm.

McMaster has requested emergency protective measures for reimbursement of funds, noncongregate shelter authorization and direct federal assistance for the entire state.

Much of the Midlands and Upstate are either under an ice storm warning or a winter weather advisory.

Freezing rain and sleet are expected to accumulate from late Saturday afternoon through Monday morning, leading to hazardous road conditions and potential days-long power outages.

Residents in these areas are encouraged to have a plan in place and to travel only if absolutely necessary. it
