Glennville native crowned Mrs. America, prepares for Mrs. World competition

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Paige Ewing, a Glennville native, was crowned Mrs. America four weeks ago and will represent the United States at the Mrs. World competition in January.

Ewing joined WTOC’s Dawn Baker on Welcome to Our Community to talk about her experiences in the pageant system, her life and motivations.

“It’s been a crazy four weeks. I don’t even think it’s been a full month yet, but it feels like seven years already,” said Ewing.

History of Mrs. America pageant

The Mrs. America pageant was created in 1977 by David Marmel, a producer of sports and entertainment shows. Marmel created the competition after noticing men received recognition while their wives did not.

“He said, ‘What about the supporter behind the man? Where’s the woman? Why don’t we have something for her?’” Ewing said. “And his wife was also into pageants and he saw a perfect fit and he created the Mrs. America pageant.”

She said is preparing for Mrs. World in January.

“In January, mid to late January, we don’t know the date yet, but Mrs. World. So I get to go and represent our country, which I’m incredibly honored to do. And I’ll compete in interview, swimsuit, evening gown, and we’ll see which, which woman across the whole world will carry on the title next,” said Ewing.

She said she wanted to show her daughters that no matter how old you are, you can still enjoy your passions.

“There’s no deadline. There’s no time limit on still living out what you feel was put in your heart a long time ago,” said Ewing.
