Georgia governor candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms tours Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms traveled through Savannah Tuesday on her “Standing up for Georgia” tour.

She met with Mayor Van Johnson and traveled to a couple different businesses asking questions on how she can be of service if she reaches the governor’s office.

Bottoms is one of five democratic candidates in the primary race for governor. Tuesday she talked with leaders of local businesses about issues, particularly the tariffs, something she brought up to Diaspora Market’s owner.

“She said they haven’t felt the impact yet and I think that’s great news. I’ve heard from other small business owners that it’s directly impacting them,” said Bottoms.

After the time in Diaspora, she and Mayor Johnson took to Kim’s Café, where they visited with voters.

Her tour started on July 24th, and she said Savannah was an important stop, thanks to her close relationship with Mayor Van Johnson.

“That’s why it was so important for us to kick off our tour here, because Van Johnson and I worked side by side together during the pandemic and during the protests of 2020. Under extreme circumstances, you want good partners,” said Bottoms.

Republican candidate and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones recently received the endorsement of President Donald Trump. He faces Attorney General Chris Carr in the GOP primary. Jones emphasized getting rid of state income tax and Carr says he’s focused on keeping Georgia safe.

Bottoms and Johnson will be available for questions at Temple of Glory Community Church for a meet and greet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
