Georgia Transformer expansion in Rincon to bring 400 jobs
RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) -Work has begun on a major expansion at Georgia Transformer Manufacturing that will bring around 400 jobs to Effingham County.
The company broke ground on the expansion project, which will increase production capacity for large power transformers. The equipment is needed to move electricity efficiently from generating stations across long distances.
Prabhat Jain, CEO of Virginia Transformer, said increasing demand for power is driving the expansion.
“What’s driving the expansion is the increasing demand for power in our grid. All over the country. For manufacturing, for AI, for mining, for building semiconductors,” Jain said.
Jain also pointed to growth closer to home, including more data centers and continued development tied to the ports.
Effingham County leaders said the project is about more than job numbers. It will also help residents work closer to where they live, cutting down on long commutes and traffic.
“Transportation’s an issue in our area, and I think that’s one of the most important pieces there, is just the fact that we now don’t have to be part of the transportation congestion,” said Matt Saxon, chairman of the Effingham County Development Authority.
Hiring is expected across multiple skill levels, from labor roles to engineering positions.
“There’s jobs all over the spectrum here,” Saxon said.
Work on the expansion is set to wrap by November 2027.
