Georgia PSC democratic candidate Dr. Alicia Johnson celebrates projected win at watch party

by Lindsey Stenger

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It’s a historic night according to one of Georgia’s democratic Public Service Commission (PSC) candidates Dr. Alicia Johnson, as early results show she’s on the way to become the first democrat to hold the position in almost 2 decades.

The PSC regulates utilities in Georgia and ultimately decides whether your power bills go up.

Advocates are calling this race one of the most important elections in recent years for Georgians.

Tuesday WTOC heard from her right after early results showed her victory.

“I believe that this is an opportunity for people to have a voice back at the table, like I said, this is an opportunity to put public back into public service,” said Johnson. “Good public policy isn’t red or blue policy it is people centered policy.”

WTOC talked to Johnson just last month.

She said if elected her first order of business is to review the Helene storm recovery process.

She also says that this campaign has shown her just how much support she has surrounding her and she is ready to get to work on the comission.
