Georgia Agriculture Commissioner announces initiative celebrating Georgia’s veteran farmers

by Summer Swanson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced a new initiative celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Leading up to the celebration, Georgia Grown is set to honor the over 7,000 members of Georgia’s agriculture industry who have served in the United States Military by asking veteran farmers to share their stories.

“We are incredibly proud to highlight the service, sacrifice, and contributions of our state’s veteran farmers to Georgia’s #1 industry and our nation,” Harper. “I want to encourage all Georgia veterans who are actively engaged in agriculture to share their stories as we reflect and celebrate America250.”

Click here to share your story with Georgia Grown.

Some questions include:

  • How did your experience in the military influence your transition into agriculture?
  • What branch of the U.S. military did you serve in?
  • What motivated you to pursue a career in agriculture after your service ended?
  • As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, what aspect of your contribution to Georgia’s agriculture makes you most proud?

Submissions will be featured on digital video boards throughout the Georgia Grown building at the Georgia National Fair this October.

Veterans who are interested in sharing their story are encouraged to complete the above online form by September 26th, 2025.
