GDOT proposes roundabout in Effingham County to decrease crashes, reduce drive times on S.R. 30
RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposed roundabout project to improve operations at the State Route 30 and Kolic Helmey Road intersection.
“A new road will be constructed on the south side of the intersection to connect to the new Brunson Station residential development. In addition to the roundabout, crosswalks will be installed on all four legs of the intersection, and they will be connected with multi-use paths around the roundabout,” they wrote in a press release.
The estimated project cost is $2.9 million.
Here are the current conditions at the intersection:
- S.R. 30/Noel C. Conaway Road is an undivided, two-lane roadway with a posted speed limit of 55 mph
- Kolic Helmey Rd. is an undivided, two-lane roadway with a posted speed limit of 45 mph
- The intersection is controlled with a stop sign on Kolic Helmey Rd.
- There are no existing sidewalks or pedestrian accommodations
- The Brunson Station residential neighborhood is under construction on the property south of the intersection.
They are allowing comments until Thursday, October 30.
