GBI asked to assist in deadly Wednesday shooting investigation, confirms Claxton PD

CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - [Update] The GBI is investigating a fatal Wednesday night shooting in Claxton.

Officers say just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night Claxton Police responded to gunshots near Terrell Street.

When they arrived the GBI says officers found 48-year-old Jonathan Gaines shot several times inside a vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital and placed on life support.

Friday Gaines died from his injuries.

The GBI says there was also a second person inside the vehicle who was treated and released from the hospital.

[Original Story] Claxton Police confirmed to WTOC the Georgia Bureau of Investigations was asked to assist an investigation into a Wednesday shooting.

Claxton Police confirmed there was a shooting at around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Terrell Street near Broad Street.
