GBI arrests Swainsboro man in fatal Tattnall County truck incident

TATTNALL COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 4/29/2026] The GBI has taken additional charges on Jordan Austin Young in connection with the death of Kimberly King.

He now faces one count of Felony Murder, three counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Cruelty to Children.

The GBI said all traffic related charges will be handled by the Georgia State Patrol.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged 25-year-old Jordan Austin Young of Swainsboro, with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 46-year-old Kimberly King of Reidsville.

On April 25, 2026, at around 8:18 p.m., the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office was sent to a river access road near Magnolia Road in Reidsville. Deputies arrived on scene and found King had been hit by a truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GBI said another woman and a 3-year-old were also injured during the incident and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. The woman is listed in critical condition, and the child was treated and released.

King’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler for an autopsy.

According to King’s obituary, she was a Tattnall County native, mother and a devoted professional who served the Department of Corrections with distinction for 23 years.

“Described by those who knew her as having a heart of gold, she never met a stranger and consistently put others before herself. Her selfless nature and genuine warmth left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to cross her path,” reads King’s obituary.

Warrant details incident

In a state warrant, it alleges that Young veered off the driving path where he struck King who was walking with a 20-year-old woman and 3-year-old child. At the time of the incident, the warrant says King was holding the child in her arms and was able to toss the child out of harm’s way prior to being hit by the vehicle.

Young’s bond was denied.

Active and ongoing case

This case is active and ongoing. The Georgia State Patrol is assisting in this investigation. The GBI said additional charges are likely forthcoming.
