Free prescription drug take-back event set for Wilmington Island

by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will host a Prescription Drug Take Back event later this month, giving residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unused or expired medications.

The event is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Frank Murray Community Center, 125 Wilmington Island Road.

Officials say keeping unused prescription drugs in the home can increase the risk of accidental poisonings, misuse, and overdoses, particularly among teens and seniors. The event aims to help protect the community by removing potentially harmful medications.

The service is free and anonymous, and no needles or sharps will be accepted. Participants are asked to remove or cover personal information on prescription labels before dropping off medications.

Residents will also have an opportunity to meet Richard S. Coleman at 11 a.m. during the event.
