Free Rita’s Italian Ice returns Friday for first day of spring

ATLANTA, Ga. (WTOC) - For many fans, spring does not officially begin until they have a cup of Rita’s Italian Ice in hand.

Rita’s locations reopened nationwide on March 1, and on March 20 the chain will celebrate the first day of spring by giving away a free 6-ounce Italian Ice at more than 600 locations, including those in the Savannah area.

The annual tradition is expected to serve about one million cups of Italian Ice as customers mark the start of warmer weather.

Rita’s is partnering with the PEEPS® brand to introduce a limited-time Mystery PEEPS® Italian Ice, served as a white Italian Ice with a hidden flavor. Customers can also add a PEEPS® Marshmallow Chick topper to their Italian Ice or frozen custard.

From March 20 through March 29, fans can submit their guesses online for a chance to win prizes.

Five winners selected at random from correct guesses will receive:

• Free Rita’s Italian Ice for a year
• A Rita’s and PEEPS® swag pack
