Fort Stewart change of responsibility ceremony

HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) - Friday morning, a 3rd Infantry Division soldier at Fort Stewart stepped into a higher position within the Soldier Recovery Unit during a change of responsibility ceremony.

Outgoing Battalion Command Sergeant Major Glen Bennet passed the baton to Battalion Command Sergeant Major Dimitrius Peggins.

Command Sergeant Major Bennet has served in the United States Army for more than two decades. He’s been stationed all across the country and served on several tours overseas.

Before being stationed at Fort Stewart, CSM Bennet was a Brigade Operations Sergeant in Texas. His leadership position within the Soldier Recovery Unit was different than any of his previous roles.

Over the past two years, he adapted to help soldiers recover from and rehabilitate their injuries.

“I didn’t understand the language, didn’t understand how a military hospital ran, so that helped me professionally, I would say, is understanding that side of it. But I am extremely excited to get back to the armor world,” said CSM Bennett.

Command Sergeant Major Bennet and his family are headed west to Fort Benning, Georgia.

Once there he will take up the mantel of Brigade Sergeant Commander, which now gives Command Sergeant Major Dimitrius Peggins the opportunity to continue caring for soldiers at Fort Stewart.
