Former Claxton Mayor Luther Royal passes away
CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - Former Claxton Mayor Luther Royal has passed away, according to a social media post by the city.
Royal served as Claxton’s mayor for 11 years and an additional 16 years as a city councilman.
City leaders recognized Royal as a man who helped the city navigate years of growth and change through his leadership and commitment.
“Even after his time in office, Luther never stepped away from serving others,” city officials said. “He remained deeply involved in the community, always willing to lend his time, wisdom, and support wherever it was needed.”

City officials said they are grateful for Royal’s years of service to the city and the legacy he leaves behind.
