Five people rescued from two-alarm fire on King George Boulevard
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) [UPDATE 4/12/26 7:25 p.m.] - Several Chatham County Police units were called back to the scene of a fire at the Georgetown Oaks Apartments Saturday evening.
A CCPD lieutenant told WTOC crews the call was due to a “verbal dispute” between two parties. CCPD officials said they received varying accounts of what happened on the scene.
The sire of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal. Officials say the apartment complex is incredibly structurally unsafe.

[UPDATE 4/12/26 11:42AM] A Fire broke out at the Georgetown Oaks Apartments on King George Boulevard around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Chatham County Police Department officers were the first on scene. According to CCPD, Officer B. Lowe and Officer T. Velte ran toward a building where the upper floors were engulfed in flames.
The officers spotted a mother with her two children on an upper floor balcony. The mother signaled for the officers to catch her children and dropped them down to the officers, who caught them safely.
The Chatham County Fire Department arrived on scene as the rescue was taking place. CCFD reports that a total of five people were rescued. Two children were transported to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The incident escalated to a two-alarm fire, requiring a response from 22 units.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist displaced residents. The State Fire Marshal Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
