Fire damages 40 rooms at Best Western hotel in Point South

JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A fire at a Best Western hotel damaged 40 rooms overnight, but all occupants were safely evacuated with no injuries reported, according to Jasper County EMS.

Chief Russell Wells of Jasper County EMS said crews responded to the fire shortly after midnight and remained on scene as of Wednesday morning.

The fire affected three buildings with a common roof line, but crews were able to contain the blaze to the building where it started, Wells said.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including Jasper County Fire-Rescue, Marine Corps Air Station-Beaufort, Hampton County Fire-Rescue, Sheldon’s Fire-Rescue, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Wells said a significant amount of resources were used to fight the fire.

The hotel owner and staff helped displaced guests find other accommodations, according to Wells.

Officials have begun investigating the cause of the fire. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, SC Fire Marshal’s Office, and Jasper County Fire Marshal’s Office are handling the investigation.
