Fatal single-vehicle crash on Blue Jay Road, Effingham Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating
EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one man dead Friday night.
Deputies responded to a report of the crash right before 9 p.m. Friday on Blue Jay Road, near Finch Lane.
34-year-old Jacob Lane was driving West on Blue Jay Road, when his vehicle ran off the road on the right side, crossed over Finch Lane and struck a utility pole, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
He died from his injures at the scene.
A dog was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Thanks to a Good Samaritan, it was later discovered that one of Lane’s dogs, Roxy, was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The Good Samaritan found and took care of the dog after the crash,” wrote the sheriff’s office.
Roxy the dog was reunited with Lane’s family.
The sheriff’s office said it is unknown at this time what caused Lane to run off the road.
