Fallen tree damages property near Forsyth Park
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Sunday evening, WTOC crews went over to East Huntingdon Street to check it out after reports of a downed tree in the area.
A tree came down on a resident’s home in the 300 block of E. Huntingdon St. destroying their balcony, crushing cars, and blocking the road.
WTOC spoke with Savannah Fire Department Battalion Chief Joseph Shaw, who said the wind gusts reached 50 miles an hour, which created a lot of damage with tree limbs in the area.
“When they got here, they noted that there was a large tree down that took off the porch on the house you see behind you, nobody was injured and the house is stable,” said Shaw.

Within a few hours, the fire department and a tree cutting company were clearing the road.
WTOC also spoke with a neighbor, Tood Nemanic, who said he has lived in his house for 24 years and nothing like this has ever happened.
“I was just watching football, and I heard the loudest boom I have ever heard in Savannah, and I jumped up hoping it wasn’t my house that was falling apart,” he said.
