FIRST ALERT: Northbound lane of I-95 reopens after lunchtime tanker truck fire
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — South Carolina Department of Transportation cameras show traffic moving on both sides of I-95 after a massive tanker truck fire shut down the interstate.
The right northbound lane remained closed as of 4:30 p.m., but SCDOT cameras showed a charred shoulder of the interstate that appeared to be where the tanker burned earlier in the day.
Shortly before noon, the fire broke out on I-95 North near mile marker 72 in the St. Georget area of Dorchester County.
As of 2 p.m., the northbound side of the interstate remained shut down, but the southbound side had reopened.
Dorchester County Sheriff’s spokesman Steven Wright said Friday afternoon that his agency was unaware of any injuries reported in connection with the fire.
