FBI update on Charlie Kirk assassination

by Christopher Teuton

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The FBI is scheduled to give a press conference updating the public on the Charlie Kirk shooting which happened at a political rally yesterday, September 10th.

The FBI says they do not have the suspect in custody at this time.

However, they have footage of the suspect who jumped from a building, fled from campus and into a neighborhood.

They have collected a “high powered, bolt action” rifle they believed was used in the shooting.

The FBI says they are not releasing any images of the suspect at this time, but believe him to be a “college-aged” male.

“I can tell you this was a targeted event,” said Robert Bohls, the top FBI agent in Salt Lake City.

Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was killed with a gunshot from a distant rooftop at the Utah Valley University campus, where he was speaking Wednesday.

Federal, state and local authorities were working what they called “multiple active crime scenes.”

“This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Wednesday. “I want to be very clear this is a political assassination.”

Two people were detained Wednesday, but neither was determined to be connected to the shooting and both were released, public safety officials said.
