Effingham County woman charged with husband’s murder after his body was discovered

GUYTON, Ga. (WTOC) - An Effingham County woman is jailed without bond after authorities say her husband was found dead inside a home in Guyton.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a home on Pine Street just before 4 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2025, at the request of the Guyton Police Department. A man was found dead inside the residence, investigators said.

Jennifer Underwood was arrested and charged in connection with the death of her husband, Johnathan Underwood, according to investigators.

Court documents show she was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Authorities said Underwood was denied bond and remains held at the Effingham County Jail.
