by Mike Cihla

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Quick thinking 2nd graders put their safety knowledge to the test at the annual Effingham County Schools’ Quick-Think-A-Thon Tuesday.

It’s a spelling-bee style challenge, sponsored by the Effingham Exchange Club, where students answer questions about making smart decisions. WTOC’s Mike Cihla was the emcee for the event once again.

He asked 16 second grade students, from the 8 Effingham Elementary Schools, questions about making smart choices and keeping safe.

Questions like understanding stranger danger, how to react to a fire, saying no to drugs and dealing with dares.

The overall winner was Gabriella James from Guyton Elementary School who won a new bike.

Camilla Torres of South Effingham, Jocelyn Maynard from Ebenezer, and Kenzie Wagner from Guyton Elementary School were the runner-ups.
