EOA to open energy assistance appointments for Chatham County residents May 3
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Low-income residents in Chatham County will soon be able to apply for help with energy costs through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Officials say appointments will open Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m., and must be scheduled by phone.
The program is administered locally by the Economic Opportunity Authority for Savannah-Chatham County.
Applicants must meet income guidelines and provide required documentation to qualify. Officials say no appointments will be made in person or through the website.
When calling, residents will be prompted to accept or decline an available appointment time before the call ends. Those who do not accept a time will need to hang up and call again.
To apply, residents will need:
- A current electric bill
- Social Security cards for all household members
- A photo ID
- Proof of income for the past 30 days
Accepted income documents may include Social Security award letters, pay stubs, unemployment benefits or other assistance records.
Appointments will take place at the EOA Cuyler Building on West Anderson Street, and applicants must bring all required documents.
Officials encourage residents to call early, as appointments are expected to fill quickly.
