Decoding Dementia: Helping caregivers cope with dementia

by Dawn Baker

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - As we age, memory problems can begin and sometimes are a sign of dementia, the diagnosis can be overwhelming for the patient and their caregivers.

Hope Haven Savannah is inviting caregivers to a workshop called Decoding Dementia.

“We have Donna McMahon of McMahan Rehabilitation talking caregivers through the stages of dementia and what they can expect and what they might expect with their physical stages. How a therapist can partner with them to prevent falls an other challenges,” Hope Haven Director, Cathy Baxter explained.

There will also be other experts who specialize in supporting and educating caregivers so that they are prepared to help their loved ones who are dealing with dementia. Decoding Dementia is next Tuesday, April 7th at 10:30 a.m. St. John’s Episcopal Church on West Charlton Street. Click here to register. Registration is required.
