DeKalb County firefighter dies after battling blaze at Lithonia warehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A veteran DeKalb County firefighter died Monday after battling a blaze at a Lithonia warehouse, officials said.

The firefighter responded to a fire at a warehouse on the 2500 block of South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road on Monday afternoon, according to the medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

A DeKalb County spokesperson confirmed a firefighter who was with DeKalb County Fire Rescue for 21 years died of injuries he “sustained in a commercial structure fire.”

A DeKalb County firefighter died in the line of duty Monday.

“We ask everyone to pray for his family and for the members of DeKalb County Fire Rescue as we navigate this difficult time,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Officials identified the master firefighter as Preston Fant.
