Crocker Case: Hearings in shocking Effingham County family murder case continue
EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Hearings in a shocking Effingham County family murder case continued in court Monday.
Elwyn Crocker Sr., the father accused of killing his two teenage children and burying them in his backyard nearly seven years ago, was the only defendant in the courtroom.
Below is an interactive map showing how the victims and defendants are connected, as well as the charges the defendants face:
Crocker is one of three people potentially facing the death penalty in this case, but was the only one with hearings scheduled Monday.
Over a month ago, attorneys for Elwyn Crocker, Sr. asked for more time to review crime scene photos and craft their case for which electronics seized from the Crocker home should be excluded at trial.
Monday, court proceeding picked up right where they left off with the defense arguing against admitting the devices that belonged to the other defendants in the case.
An investigator with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office says they found a photo of Mary Crocker, texts discussing the children’s wellbeing and internet search histories related to burial, poisoning and more during their search.
In a separate motion, the defense also introduced their own witness, Dr. Wanda Foglia, an expert on capital cases.
Based on research, she says jurors are more likely dismiss evidence that may reduce the severity of a defendant’s sentence, like the death penalty.
It’s still unclear when the case will go to trial.
