Crash closes multiple lanes on I-16 at Exit 166
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [Update as of 6:36 p.m.] Georgia DOT cams show that the affected area is now cleared.
[Original Story] A crash has closed lanes on I-16 at Exit 166, according to the Savannah Police Department.
In a social media post, SPD says this closure is due to an accident.
“Traffic is being diverted onto the 37th St. connector,” the Savannah Police says. “Please seek an alternate route.”

GDOT cameras show what appears to be a collapsed road sign and fire extinguishers being used on a vehicle.
Savannah Fire confirms a semi-truck fell over and caught on fire in a social media post, saying “I-16 East Bound lanes are currently closed due to an overturned semi at Exit 165/ 37th Street Connector.”

According to Chatham County EMS, at least one person was transported away from the scene.
Savannah Police Captain Garver tells WTOC that the current estimated time for this area of I-16 to open back up to normal traffic is between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
As of 5:23 p.m., GDOT shows an anticipated end time of 7:00 p.m.
Department of Transportation cameras show road crews working to remove debris.
