Community health fair connects residents with free screenings and resources

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Care Giving Insider hosted a community health fair providing free health screenings, fitness classes and community resources.

The event connected people with nonprofits like Grow Initiative Georgia. The nonprofit organization serves vulnerable populations in Chatham and Effingham Counties through bilingual literacy classes, a community navigation program and health and nutrition program.

All staff members are community health workers who go into vulnerable communities and teach about making healthy choices.

“It allows us to really connect with the communities that we serve,” said Rosie Harrison, executive director of Grow Initiative Georgia. “Typically, our vulnerable populations don’t have access to have all of these providers in one place. So, attending these community events allow us to connect with those participants but also allows organizations to come together, connect with each other, and elevate our community.”

Attendees had the chance to connect with different health providers, nonprofit organizations and fitness professionals in the region.
