SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Screven County community is honoring the life of a girl who died after a crash at her bus stop last week.

Tuesday night Billie Jo’s Place — a locally owned restaurant in downtown Sylvania— held a fundraiser to raise money for the family of the late 5-year-old Kyleigh Roper.

She died five days ago after she was hit by a vehicle while waiting for the school bus.

Owner Billie Jo says the tight-knit community supports each other like family, especially in times like these.

“Our hearts were so heavy that we just wanted to do whatever we could to help so we decided to do the fundraiser,” said Billie Jo Lea, Owner of Billie Jo’s place. “We’ve got volunteers in there lending a hand, it’s super busy and we knew it was going to be, because this community just really comes out for each other. It’s been very heartwarming.”

40 percent of all sales from the event will go directly to supporting Kyleigh’s family.
