Diabetes is a chronic condition that increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce insulin, while Type 2 diabetes develops when the body cannot properly use insulin. Most cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented through weight loss, healthy eating and regular physical activity.
