Cleveland Browns legend Bernie Kosar heads back to University Hospitals after liver transplant
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Beloved Browns legend Bernie Kosar went back to University Hospitals Thursday for what he is calling “routine blood work.”
Kosar, 62, underwent a lifesaving liver transplant on Nov. 17.
He was re-admitted to the hospital on Nov. 30 and released on Dec. 2.
Kosar received the liver from Bryce Dunlap, 21, of North Olmsted. Dunlap passed away unexpectedly due to complications from an anoxic brain injury.
Kosar publicly thanked Dunlap’s family on his Facebook page and called the transplant “great gift.”
In summer 2024, the legendary quarterback was diagnosed with liver failure and Parkinson’s disease.
“Thank you all for the love, prayers, and support on this road to recovery — it truly keeps me going," posted Kosar on Facebook.
Kosar previously said he plans to focus on his recovery the weeks after the surgery.
“One of the things is they are trying to calm me down, stay quiet because it really is the first 90 days. With infections and meeting people and getting too confident in your health and wellness you have to be careful,” said Kosar.
