Chatham County police arrest suspect in Wells Fargo armed robbery

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) is investigating a robbery that happened Friday afternoon just before 3 p.m.

CCPD says the robbery occurred at Wells Fargo at The Landings.

Officers say upon arrival CCPD received the preliminary suspect and vehicle information which was relayed via dispatch.

CCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and the FBI also responded to process the scene and interview witnesses.

Just after, a potential suspect vehicle was identified and located in the Pooler Parkway area.

A Pooler police officer and Chatham County deputy detained a person believed to be responsible for the bank robbery during a traffic stop near the car wash on Pooler Parkway near the YMCA.

CCPD detectives arrested 36-year-old Sudre Alexandre Lesperance and charged him with armed robbery.

He will be booked into the Chatham County Detention Center.

The FBI says Lesperance was arrested back in 2016 for a bank robbery in Florida.

CCPD detectives and the FBI will continue working together on the investigation.

Sheriff Richard Coleman was at the scene and talked to WTOC about what happened.

“A good nice area, near The Landings, is not really used to that type of crime or criminal activity so I’m sure it’s probably pretty shocking, but I’m happy to report it did not last long,” said Coleman. “He is off the streets and in the Chatham County jail where he belongs. The message: don’t commit crimes here in Chatham County because you will be caught and you will be arrested.”

CCPD thanked the Savannah Police Department, Pooler Police Department, and the other agencies that assisted in this case.

This bank robbery comes just 24 hours after a separate armed robbery at Bank of America on East Victory Drive.
