Chatham County Board of Commissioners and CAT call special meetings

by Summer Swanson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Chatham County Board of Commissioners will meet Friday to discuss pending litigation against Chatham Area Transit.

The issue has created ongoing tension over the past year. The county has threatened to pull funding from CAT due to a change in Georgia law that decreased the County Commission’s control over the CAT Board.

WTOC spoke with CAT Chairman and Savannah Alderman Detric Leggett at the Capitol in Atlanta.

He said he remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached.

“We’ll we’re always going to be One Chatham. Sometimes there’s a difference of opinion and we don’t know how to get to a resolution to it, but we’re working on it now, and now that everyone’s here, we have everybody at the table, everybody’s in the same room,” Leggett said at the Capitol in Atlanta.

CAT announced it will hold a special called meeting Monday. The CAT board said it will go into executive session to discuss personnel matters related to an agency executive head.

The CAT meeting will be Monday at noon.
