Bulloch County deputies arrest 17-year-old accused of shooting two, nearly hitting elderly woman
BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A 17-year-old is behind bars after investigators say he shot two men and nearly hit an elderly woman inside her home in Bulloch County.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened Wednesday evening at Chances Mobile Home Park. Captain Todd Hutchens said two men were hit—one in the leg and another in the hand.
Investigators identified the suspect as 17-year-old Lorenzo Nesmith. Hutchens says Nesmith was located and taken into custody within about five to six hours, at a home roughly a half-mile from the scene.
Nesmith now faces 10 charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault. Hutchens noted that in Georgia, a 17-year-old is considered an adult under the law.
Sheriff’s officials say an innocent neighbor also narrowly avoided being hurt when bullets struck a nearby mobile home about four times.
An elderly woman was inside at the time but was not hit. Because of that, Hutchens says additional charges include criminal damage to property in the first degree and an aggravated assault charge naming the woman as a victim.
Investigators say they are still working to determine a motive, but they believe the parties involved had communicated previously.
The investigation remains ongoing.
