SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (WTOC) - A watch party for Congressman Buddy Carter is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Hudson Grill in Sandy Springs as polls close in Georgia’s Republican Senate primary.

Setup was underway at the venue Tuesday afternoon, with supporters expected to arrive as polling locations close.

About 14% of expected voters had cast ballots as of Tuesday afternoon.

The race could head to a runoff, and Carter is hoping to secure a spot.

Campaign trail

Carter has campaigned across the state in the last month, continuing to push his conservative agenda. He has strong support from the coastal empire, where he served as mayor of Pooler and has represented the state’s first Congressional district since 2015.

Before Congress, he served in the Georgia legislature and was known as a businessman and pharmacist in the coastal empire.

He is running against Congressman Mike Collins, who leaned toward President Trump’s policies and immigration issues heavily.

Derek Dooley, former University of Tennessee football coach, has Governor Brian Kemp’s endorsement.

The winner of the Republican primary is expected to face incumbent Democrat Jon Ossoff in November.

Carter was in Savannah on Monday making a last-minute appeal to voters in the coastal empire.
