Brantley County adjusts evacuation orders, reopens some roads amid Hwy 82 fire

BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Brantley County Sheriff’s Office has adjusted road closures and evacuation orders tied to the Highway 82 fire. Officials say the changes do not mean the fire is out, and conditions could shift quickly.

Officials said residents who return during the break in fire weather should be prepared to evacuate again with little notice.

In the Post Road area, the previous mandatory evacuation zone and closures from the eastern county line, extending north from Highway 82 to Highway 32 and over to Boots Harrison Road, are being modified.

Officials said the following roads are now open:

  • Post Road, including side roads off Post that are not through roads
  • The eastern portion of Albert Gibson Road; Boots Harrison Road remains closed
  • The eastern portion of Murphy Road to Mineral Springs

The sheriff’s office said children under 18 in the voluntary evacuation area must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Deputies will remain in the area, and residents are urged to respect remaining closures and barricades.

Officials said more updates will be provided as conditions change.
