Brantley Co. wildfire now more than 60% contained after Saturday’s rainfall
BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - After around one inch of rain across the area, the Brantley County wildfires are now 64% contained as of Saturday night.
Officials posted on the Highway 82 Fire Information Facebook page at around 11:15 p.m. that the recent rainfall helped reduce fire activity and gave crews opportunity to make additional progress.
“While this is positive progress, the job is not finished,” they wrote.
Firefighters will continue patrolling the area, finding hidden hot spots, and strengthening containment lines according to the post.
“Crews do not consider an area contained simply because rain fell or flames are no longer visible—there must be confidence that heat has been addressed and the chance of spread or spotting across the line is minimal," they continued.
This is a developing situation. Stick with WTOC for updates.
