BLUFFTON, Sc. (WTOC) -A commitment to safe driving could help pay for college in Bluffton.

The Town of Bluffton is now accepting applications for its “Stay Safe, Bluffton!” scholarships, which recognize students who serve as positive role models for safe driving while demonstrating academic and civic achievement.

Applications will be accepted Jan. 1 through March 1, with the town awarding up to five $1,500 scholarships to eligible local students. The program is open to Bluffton High School and May River High School seniors, private or homeschooled seniors, as well as students enrolled in local college or vocational programs.

The scholarships are part of Bluffton’s broader “Stay Safe, Bluffton!” campaign, which aims to reduce traffic collisions and promote mindful driving, particularly among younger residents. Students selected for the award are expected to act as safe-driving ambassadors, encouraging peers to make responsible choices behind the wheel.

Funding for the scholarships is raised through the town’s annual Independence Day 5K and voluntary donations from participants in Bluffton’s Christmas Parade. Scholarship recipients will be announced in May.

Application details and eligibility requirements are available on the Town of Bluffton’s website at https://www.townofbluffton.sc.gov/639/Stay-Safe-Bluffton-Scholarship
