Beaufort High’s David Favata earns district Counselor of the Year honor
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - David Favata, a counselor at Beaufort High School, has been named the Beaufort County School District 2026-27 School Counselor of the Year, recognizing his long-standing commitment to student success.
District leaders praised Favata for blending compassion with structure to help students navigate academic and career paths.
“What truly sets Mr. Favata apart is his ability to combine heart with structure,” Superintendent Frank Rodriguez said. He added that Favata believes every student deserves a strong advocate and that success is not defined by a single path.

Favata credited his fellow counselors for the achievement.
“I think what I’ve taken the most pride in is building a team,” he said. “My team is really why we’re successful.”
Principal Ryan Walsh said Favata consistently goes above and beyond for students and families.
“Mr. Favata is incredibly deserving of school counselor of the year,” Walsh said. “He works tirelessly for his students, parents, and for the good of the school.”
Favata has worked as a school counselor for 25 years, including the past four years in Beaufort County.
School officials said he takes pride in guiding students toward their goals, whether that means college, the workforce, or skilled trades.
