Beaufort County celebrates opening of downtown Beaufort connector

by WTOC Staff

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - Beaufort County celebrated a major milestone Thursday.

The Spanish moss trail was designated a “kids in parks track trail”.

This national designation means more outdoor fun for families and children.

The track trail starts at the depot trailhead and extends about a mile toward port royal.

Organizers also celebrated the official opening of the new Spanish Moss Trail’s Downtown Beaufort Connector

This links the Spanish moss trail directly to Beaufort’s historic bay street.

“Well, it’s important for everyone to get out and enjoy our beautiful downtowns in Fort Oro and the city of Beaufort, but also it’s a great family activity to use this trail,” said Alice Howard, chairman of Beaufort County Council.

Howard says there’s another transportation referendum happening February 18th.

The meeting will take place at the council chambers.

Committee members are expected to talk about the future of transportation in Beaufort County.
