Beaufort Co. Coroner gives update on deceased person discovered on Fripp Island

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office is still working to determine the identity of a deceased person discovered at 718 Bonito Dr. on Fripp Island on August 16, 2025.

Currently they are in the process of positively identifying the victim using DNA evidence.

“It can take weeks for this information to come back, so we will release the identity of the victim when we have those results,” the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office said in a press release earlier today.

SLED is the investigating police agency in this case.

WTOC has reached confirmed this death is related to last week’s major fire on Fripp Island in which one man and one dog died.

The SLED Arson Unit was requested on Saturday, August 16, 2025, by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, to assist in investigating the fire on Fripp Island.
