Beaufort Animal Services warns of keeping pets outside in cold weather
BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC. (WTOC) - Saturday evening, Beaufort County Animal Services took to social media asking if anyone with dogs tethered outside needed help bringing them indoors due to the extreme cold temperatures and wind chills.
Staff expected to hear from people in need, but did not receive any requests....So they are sharing this information again in a more direct way.
Beaufort County law states: No animal shall be restrained or tethered during any named tropical storm, named hurricane, or any adverse weather expected to impact Beaufort County.
With the current extreme cold and dangerous wind chills, this law applies.
If you need a crate or temporary assistance to bring your dog indoors for one or two nights, please reach out now. Staff are giving owners the opportunity to do the right thing and keep their animals safe, ahead of getting in legal trouble.
Moving forward, citations will be issued for violations. This is about animal safety. Please text 843-812-2413 if you need a crate.
If you know of anyone with dogs outside, their inbox is open, and all reports will remain anonymous.
Here is their Facebook page if you need to report any animals left outside in the cold weather.
